This was the team of cars that cheated at that Richmond Race in September, in an effort to get their third teammate Martin Truex Jr. into the chase. This caused their biggest sponsor NAPA to JR Motorsports in the Nationwide Series.
This caused Michael Waltrip Racing to have to scale down to two cars, retaining drivers Brian Vickers and Clint Bowyer #55 and #15 respectively. They have hired Jeff Burton as a part time research and development driver in a #66 car in about 6 races. With a smaller focus Michael Waltrip Racing will be able to focus more on the two cars involved in a possible championship run.
Several years ago this team was nothing, and it has grown into a championship contender.
