On a Sunday evening, Gene and I were sitting down to supper. Suddenly we hear knocking at Horace’s door. Horace is our neighbour across the hall in the apartment building. I didn’t think anything of it because there have been many times where Horace’s friends have knocked on his door and he would not be home.
This time, the knocking continued, for ten minutes, because I had too much patience. I finally decide to check out what’s going on even though “it’s dangerous business going out your front door.” Once in the hallway I notice nothing at first seeing wise. Horace has heard my door open “Hey, it’s Horace across the hall. My door knob fell out and I’m locked in!” I look down and in the corner lies the door knob and the straight portion that goes back in the door. Horace can’t unlock his door from his side without the straight portion. I don’t know anything about doorknobs but I slide it back in the gaping hole and we are able to make enough of a connection that Horace is able to unlock himself and go free to whatever he was planning on doing at that time.
If that hadn’t worked we would have had to resort to more drastic measures.
Horace was very happy to be free.
I was happy to help.
My only regret was not showing up sooner so he wouldn’t be in so much despair.
All’s well that ends well. At least in this case.
