I’ve been a Microsoft Windows person for what seems like forever. The first version of Windows I ever used was in my dad’s office when he would take me with him to work. It was Windows 3.1.
As time went on and I got older, I went up through the Windows ranks. 95, skipped 97, 98, Windows 2000, Skipped ME, Windows XP. Their greatest build ever, Windows Vista, which was terrible, Windows 7, Skipped 8, and now finally Windows 10.
My computer I have now still works just fine. I’m in no hurry for Windows 10 support to run out. And yet it will. Unfortunately, even though everything works just fine, it seems that Windows 11 is not worthy to be on my laptop.
I’m definitely not ready. Even though my computer works great, and there are no viruses. I began to wonder, rather than throw the whole thing away…more likely add it to the stack of old laptops, could there be another option. Then I remembered Linux. I had run a duel boot a while ago on my previous laptop before it totally died due to an unrelated issue (motherboard). My objective of discovery in this series is, would it be possible to install Linux, which is a free operating system full of continuous support, and then run my Windows programs as needed. It would save on upgrading and sitting around space if what I hope for would actually work out. However, I’m not going to just dive right into Linux again. I have to do the research to find out if it’ll actually do the things I want it to do, rather than just assuming, and causing a big mess. Due diligence. Time to start the actual adventure of… learning something new.
