I’m having a hard time looking on the bright side of the COVID-19 crisis. Sure gas prices are down which makes things ever so slightly more affordable for those who are used to spending a fortune trying to get around in cars. I have more questions than answers right now. Was stopping almost all of the economy really the best way to deal with this admittedly dangerous event? Are we really going to be able to get everyone who has lost jobs employed again, or will we become a nation dependent on the benevolent whim of government handouts? Are people really ok with this possible new reality? Gas prices came down because there was no demand for gas. Panic buying increased the demand for food, and subsequently increased the price of many things ever so slightly. Nobody thought about that at the time when they went out in a blind rage for toilet paper. You can’t blame capitalism for everything. There was plenty to go around as long as people bought their normal amounts of things. I am happy that my situation hasn’t changed that much, that I am still healthy, and it has become easier to find things at the grocery store now that people realize that the supply chain is still happening for now.
