“Where you at, boy!” Mom screamed. “It’s supper time. We are eating together like a family should. Even though it’s just two of us. That’s that!”
No answer. Clearly Darnell had been stupid, avoiding all of her advice. Obviously he had sealed his fate in some cruel, early death.
She ran all over the meadow in the gathering darkenss screaming for Darnell. Having no luck, she became tired of screaming. This along with her scent attracted a strong, tall buck. He looked great to her eyes in the shadows.
“Take me to your thicket and don’t ask any questions!” Mom demanded.
The strange buck took her to his simple home on the edge of the meadow, and proceeded to do everything he was told for the rest of the night. Mom certainly wasn’t going to cry forever.
Being a deer it is important to move on from disappointment quickly, whether you have all the details about the one you are grieving or not.
