A 48-year-old Texas man may lose his right leg after an argument on a golf course.
The incident occurred on Jan. 27 at the Golf Club at the Resort on Eagle Mountain Lake in Fort Worth. The victim, Clay Carpenter, said he was stabbed in the leg with the shaft of a broken golf club. He suffered a punctured femoral artery, resulting in serious blood loss, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Carpenter was part of a threesome who asked to play through the foursome ahead of them because of their pace of play. Claiming a club employee told them to play through, the victim alleges he was confronted by the one of the men in the group in front of them.
A verbal altercation turned physical, resulting in a fight between Carpenter and a member of the foursome. As the two scuffled on the ground, Carpenter said, another man in the foursome then used a broken golf club as a weapon to stab the victim twice in the leg with the shaft.
A member of the foursome called 911 to report the incident, saying, “He fell on a golf club or something.”
“People get in arguments every day on every golf course in America,” Carpenter told the newspaper. “But 99.9 percent of the time no one takes it this far.”
Carpenter was released from an area hospital on Sunday, though he continues to worry about his health. Because of major blood loss, the muscles in the wounded leg have atrophied. If blood flow does not improve, he fears he may have to have his leg amputated.
