Running Out Of Time: Why Care So Much?

Why Care?

Because God cares.  Over the course of this adventure we’ve discussed the crazy, wonderful things He has done for us.

The fact that there even is a way for us sinners to be reconciled to God is astounding.

We certainly don’t deserve it.

When we accept Christ’s generous gift of Salvation and allow His blood to cover our sins, we cannot choose to do this on our own.  There’s nothing we can do to make God love us any more or less.

But that does not mean that we can keep sinning and doing whatever we want to people.  God calls us to live lives that are holy because He is holy.  Since God is the author of all our lives, life is about what he wants to do with us, not what we want.  There will come a day when the Lord returns to judge the living and the dead impartially.

For believers, this will be a fantastic day.

For non-believers not so much.

Time is running out.

This is not new information, it’s a true story that has been carefully copied and passed down through generations for over 2,000 years.  That’s longer than any other religion out there.  We have the hope of the entire world.  With situations deteriorating all over the place, people are in need of hope now.

All believers have people we can reach out to in some way.

It won’t cause you to be free from trouble.

You won’t have all the money in the world.

You can still have fun without sinning.

It is not easy.

It’s certainly not boring.  Though it does take discipline, that comes over time.

Christ is our reward, and that is much better than just doing whatever, and subsequently being separated from Him in hell.

20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

Revelation 3:20

We are the body of Christ, how is He going to knock if we don’t?  Jesus delivers a stern warning to complacent Christians in the passage leading up to the one I just quoted.

15 I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! 16So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. 17You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. 18I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see.19Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.”

Revelation 3:15-19 NIV

The Lord is serious about the fact that we are running out of time.  Since we are called to be like Christ, should we not care in the same way?
