SOS Chapter 3: How To Influence People

The man, who the Lord had named Adam, named his wife Eve.  This is fortunate because now I don’t have to refer to them as The Man and The Woman anymore.

Lucifer smiled a sinister smile as Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden by The Lord.

“He may still be winning, but I made him do a thing He did not want to do.”  Lucifer said defiantly.

“I did not expect that to work at all.”  Dwight deadpanned.

“He is still God after all.”  Oscar reminded.

“Shut up, Oscar!”  Lucifer screamed.  “Don’t forget, I’m in charge now!”

The trio maintained a low profile for months that turned into years. In that time Adam and Eve had two children, who grew up to be adult men.  Cain, the oldest was a farmer, while Abel looked after sheep.

Another noteworthy thing the trio noticed about themselves is that they did not experience age like the humans did.  Even though Lucifer was responsible for putting the humans in the frail predicament in the first place.

Adam and Eve had gone against the Lord’s original, totally good plan for them and had allowed sin to come into the world.  Sin would affect Cain and Abel as much as it did them.  Over the course of time Cain brought some of the first of the fruits and vegetables he had managed to grow.  He presented them to the Lord.   Abel brought a spotless lamb.

“Thanks a lot Cain, but your brother brought me the thing I actually asked for.”  The Lord Said

Cain became depressed that his little brother had one upped him.  Lucifer, Dwight, and Oscar took note of this.

The Lord noticed Cain was not in a good way.

“Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.”  The Lord said.

“He’s definitely displeased.”  Oscar said.

“One of us should see if he’s ok.”  Dwight mentioned.

Slithering over, Lucifer intended to begin a conversation with the disgruntled man.

“Are you really just going to take that?  You worked hard for those plants!”  Lucifer shouted.

“He’s the Lord, and He doesn’t like me very much right now.  What can I do?”  Cain asked.

“You should create a situation where the Lord can’t ignore you.”  Lucifer advised.

As quickly as he came, Lucifer disappeared into the tall grass to watch events unfold from a distance with Dwight and Oscar.

Returning to the house, Cain found Abel.

“Hey, Abel.  Let’s go out into the field.” Cain suggested.

“You actually want to spend time with me when our interests are so different?”  Abel asked.

“Yeah, sure.  Let’s go!”  Cain exclaimed.

Able enjoyed frolicking in the field.  After being responsible, it was his second favourite thing to do.  Cain couldn’t stand this about his brother.  So much so, that he took a large rock and bashed Abel in the head over and over until he had no choice but to die from the injuries.

Lucifer cracked a smile.  “I influenced someone else!”  He said.

“Maybe you’re on to something.”  Oscar mentioned.

“What a weird turn of events.”  Dwight noted.  “I didn’t know people could die.”

The Lord was furious with Cain for what he had done.  They were going to have a conversation about it.

What have you done?”  The Lord asked.  He knew exactly what Cain had done.  Nothing escapes His notice.  He must have wanted to hear it from Cain’s own mouth.

Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground. 11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand. 12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”

13 Cain said to the Lord, “My punishment is more than I can bear. 14 Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.”

15 But the Lord said to him, “Not so[e]; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the Lord put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.

Cain went away to live in the wilderness in a land separate from his mother and father.  The consequence of his sin.  Cain chose to go against the good things God wanted for he and Abel.

“I love causing chaos!”  Lucifer exclaimed.  “Come on!  Let’s go back to Hell and figure out some more shenanigans to pull off!”

Dwight and Oscar eagerly followed him.  They wanted to see how this struggle for power turned out.

The Lord wasn’t worried.  Terribly, righteously angry, but not worried.  He always had a plan.  The horrible events of today couldn’t change that.
