Stenhouse To Run Daytona 500

According to www.jaysjki.com Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who won the 2011 Nationwide Series title, will compete in the 2012 Daytona 500 in Roush Fenway Racing’s #6 Ford. The team does not expect to run the unsponsored car for the full season but is locked into the first five races based on owners points from 2011 when the car was driven by David Ragan. The only race confirmed for now is the Daytona 500. The team currently does not have a sponsor for the race, team spokesman Kevin Woods said. Stenhouse will participate in the NASCAR test next week at Daytona International Speedway to prepare for the Daytona 500. Whether he runs a full Nationwide schedule in 2012 has not been solidified, Woods said.

I think this is a great opportunity for Stenhouse to show what  to show what he can do in a Cup car.  Stenhouse is a very good race car driver.  He proved that by winning the Nationwide championship last year (along with two races.  On the other hand, David Ragan must be feeling pretty sore about this right now, as he is still looking for a ride for 2012 in any series.  Roush let him go look for other options and then decides to run the #6 anyway…seems pretty shady.  (Although, Stenhouse is a more consistent driver than Ragan…so it probably won’t be a bad move.)  No word on where Ragan has landed yet.  One pundit believes he will work at Subway next season. (according to a certain “Start N Park” blog).
