The Lie That Is Prosperity Gospel

Micah 3:5-8
5 This is what the LORD says:
   “As for the prophets
who lead my people astray,
they proclaim ‘peace’
if they have something to eat,
but prepare to wage war against anyone
who refuses to feed them.
6 Therefore night will come over you, without visions,
and darkness, without divination.
The sun will set for the prophets,
and the day will go dark for them.
7 The seers will be ashamed
and the diviners disgraced.
They will all cover their faces
because there is no answer from God.”
8 But as for me, I am filled with power,
with the Spirit of the LORD,
and with justice and might,
to declare to Jacob his transgression,
to Israel his sin.
This scripture is referencing a disturbing practice that still continues today.  This practice is known as The Prosperity Gospel which goes very much against biblical teaching.  People who preach this gospel are doing exactly what the false prophets are doing in Micah 3, telling their eager congregation what they want to hear so that they might get more money out of him.  Preachers of the prosperity gospel tend to use the money gained from these exploits to fund their own private endeavors rather than using it for helping people who are actually in need, thus expanding God’s kingdom (Regular tithes and offerings in regular churches are used to expand the kingdom of God and not for the financial gain of the Pastor).  This is why pastors typically have salaries separate from that.  So that the 10% that is put in the plate every Sunday can be used for God’s good purposes and to help those in need.
For a modern day example of how a false prophet preaches for a price (or “something to eat” because he is really eating his congregation alive as Micah puts it) check out these following videos of Creflo Dollar (quite the ironic name for someone who preaches Prosperity Gospel).

This guy is trying to “steal and misuse money” and he lures them in with his smooth words and reverse psychology.

Do not be deceived.

Here is what these false prophets can do with the money they wrongly obtain from unsuspecting passers by.

Prosperity Gospel IS NOT BIBLICAL PRACTICE!

2 Corinthians 7:9
7 Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

Dollar is using compulsion to convince his followers to give him massive amounts of money. This is not how God wants us to give.

God also does not enjoy when false prophets, Creflo Dollar for example, try to take advantage of HIS people for their own selfish gain.

Micah 2:8-9

8 Lately my people have risen up
   like an enemy.
You strip off the rich robe
from those who pass by without a care,
   like men returning from battle.
9 You drive the women of my people
   from their pleasant homes.
You take away my blessing
   from their children forever.
