Let’s see how much of this one I can remember. Mom and Dad had ben planning this cross country road trip and that July it was finaly time to actually go on it together as a family. We took five weeks to pull it off. We took the senic route for sure, with the eventual goal of hanging out with the grandparents at their house on the other side of the country. What follows is a bulleted list of things that I can remember about it right now.
- My brother absolutely did not like waiting for construction, sitting in the back not knowing what was going on.
- My sisters threw up any time we had to get into the van.
- We saw some Paul Bunyan statues for some reason.
- My only memory of Vermont was a cold pool at the hotel.
- We visited relatives in Ontario. I played LEGO Racers with my second cousins.
- We weren’t supposed to be in Toledo, but we were given bad directions about a shortcut by Dad’s cousin.
- St. Louis was interesting. Didn’t actually go up the arch.
- We went to Kansas and saw where Mom’s ancestors lived. We also spent the weekend with more of Dad’s cousins. I played Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 2 with these second cousins.
- The folks in Dodge City were eager for us to put a thumb tack in their world map.
- Yellowstone was really fun. Got there just in time for Old Faithful. There was also a big lightening storm that night.
- My only memory of Denver was a giant chair.
- Washington and Idaho were normal.
- It was nice to geto to Grandma and Grandpa’s
- I got to talk to Grandpa’s friends from California on his Ham Radio. He had an impressive setup for that.
- Saw the big Moose in Moosejaw
- Our friends in Medicine Hat forgot we were coming to stay with them so we had to keep going to Swift Current. I’ve never been to Swift Current on purpose as you will probably see in a future chapter.
- North Dakota was flat.
- Ontario was Ontario again.
- Quebec was too Catholic to stop for Church apparently.
- When we got home, all the flooring was redone. Ulterior motives?
