When I was very young I used to be outspoken and say dumb things even about topics that I didn’t understand at all. Somewhere along the line I discovered that wasn’t going to work out long term. I think I was nine years old when the shift took place. How could I know what long term meant then?
People today will ask why I don’t talk much. Then I start to talk their ear off for their sake, and they discover why. I’m not good at running my mouth for hours straight. I’d rather listen to the stories of other people. It’s more fun for me. I have a routine that I stick to, and it’s interesting hearing about other folks experiences over telling my own. They’ve done more with their lives anyway. Why would I not listen and learn? Maybe I can pick up a few things. Maybe I can get better. I don’t learn anything if I’m talking. There’s not much I know that other people don’t anyway. Just because I’m not talking, doesn’t mean I’m not interested. Actually, 99 times out of 100 it means the opposite. Sure, I could talk and talk and talk just to keep a certain subset of people happy, but what long term gain does that really create? I’m not looking for answers in this one. I’m just writing what I think in this very moment.
