W1 Chapter 4: The Room

When Kory was able to open his eyes again, he was in the middle of a large room, surrounded by what he could best determine to be… spy stuff…  Oedipus stood before him.  Further back and all around were men and women all smartly dressed, like they cared about the work they were doing.

Kory looked down at himself, and found that he too was in a dark suit he did not remember wearing.

“How do you have this much control over me?”  Kory asked.

“That’s not for you to know right now.  Later, but not right now.”  Oedipus replied.  Then he continued in a tone of voice which commanded Kory to listen to every word.

“This room is the center of our entire opperation.  Training new agents, upgrading skills and spy accessories, briefing for missions, debriefing after.  It all takes place here.  You will get to know it very well.”  Oedipus said.

“I thought it would be bigger now that you’ve said all of those things.”  Kory deadpanned.

“We wouldn’t do a good job of blending in if it was a big complex.”  Oedipus deadpanned back.  “Notice that I transported you straight inside.  The outside of this place looks like a dump for a reason!”

They were going to get along just fine.

“So, do I get a cool spy name?”  Kory asked.

“You’re pressing your luck.  I’m just going to call you Kory, unless you make me really mad.”  Oedipus joked.

Kory immediately thought of the worst possible names Oedipus could come up for them.

“You are ready for your first solo mission.  Take this two way tooth radio.”  Oedipus handed it to him.

“What happened to the training and briefing?”  Kory asked, obviously shocked.

“If we went by the book all the time, we’d be too predictable.”  Oedipus said.  “Ignorance is the best cover.  I’ll be available to talk to you every step of the way.  Please, wait patiently to be transported.”

So, a lot of the things you just told me were lies, and I basically have no control of what happens next.”  Kory said, slightly frustrated.

“More or less.”  Oedipus deadpanned.

“This is because of the Mom joke isn’t it.”  Kory whined.

“Yep.”  Oedipus said.

Suddenly there was the blinding light.  Off to who knows where now.
