W2 Chapter 1: The Edge Of A Cliff

Kory stood poised in his coolest “I’m standing at the edge of a cliff” pose.  Below was an ancient Japanese town, the kind so remote that you could still live the way your ancestors did.  He had taken on more intense physical training since his last mission, and this gave him some new found confidence.  The man Oedipus had transported him here, instructing him to blend in and see if he could figure out what strange things were going on under the nose of…everyone.

Standing there in all black against a twilight sky, Kory did a radio check.”

“Test.”  Kory said.

“I can hear you.”  Oedipus replied.

“When am I going to get to transport myself places?  I could have landed right in the town!”  Kory demanded.

“Chill out and use your repel gun.”  Oedipus suggested.  “For now, I still need control over you.”

“Need?”  Kory asked.

Kory took the gun it out if his pocket.  He pointed the thing at a tree on the ground and fired.  A grappling hook flew out and wrapped itself around a tiny tree on the ground below.  A second pull of the trigger sent Kory hurtling through the air toward the ground.  As unlikely as it seemed, Kory did manage to stick the landing.

“Wasn’t that fun?” Oedipus asked.

“I’d hate to know what you do in your free time.”  Kory deadpanned.

“Make yourself next to invisible and have a look around.”  Oedipus commanded.

That’s what Kory did.  It was easier in the gathering darkness. After all that effort, he was going to make sure some sort of fruit came of it.  Kory made himself scarce.
