1 John 1: 5-9
5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. 6 If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all[b] sin.
8 If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
Him: God
You: Us reading the letter.
Light: God is perfect and holy and can’t be around sin. Sin is a big deal.
Darkness: We keep being knuckleheads and sinning constantly. God still loves us, so He had to make a way to remedy this situation. Us humans can’t do it by ourselves.
Confess: “I’m so sick of being a knuckle head. I want to do the things that make You happy with me.” …or something to that effect.
God is the only one who could do that. The only one who could forgive sins. Justified through Jesus Christ’s death and ressurrection, conquering both sin and death. There’s no way we can do this on our own. We’re not even supposed to. We need Jesus. He want to be there for us. To lead. To be the center of every part of our lives.
