-22: The Cure

Q:  Do you think they’ll ever find a cure for being visually impaired?
A:  Nothing is impossible, but it seems unlikely that a one size fits all cure would ever come about since visual impairment takes many forms and has many causes which are interesting things for doctors to study.  If you don’t have a live case in front of you, you’re not going to have much to study.  So there’s two sides to this.  Sure a cure would be beneficial if it were to be found, but then you’re putting a whole range of doctors, and people who work on the visual aids end of things, out of business if the “problem” gets solved.  It’s a catch twenty-two (no pun intended) in some ways.  You solve all blindness, but you kill a chunk of the world-wide economy in the process.  When you look at it this way, it has to make one wonder if it’s worth it.
