Book Review: Surrender

He writes really well and I learned several new words that I had to stop and look up in the dictionary.  You know you’re reading at your level when you have to do that as an adult.  It’s 500 pages of Bono trying to convince people that he’s really a normal guy like half of the rest of us.   It was interesting to learn that he regretted his 80’s mullet.  It’s not all about the band and the songs.  We also get a glimpse into what it was like to grow up in Ireland during The Troubles.  He doesn’t hold much back.   I didn’t know a person could like airplane food that much.  Then he talks about all of his friends who would just drop by his house.  Half the book probably is about how Jesus showed up and changed his life in a way that is genuine and not trying to pull any tricks.  That was interesting that he spent that much time on it.  I’m a Christian too.  Do I spend enough talking about that in my own life.  Probably not.  Could I stand to do it more without being annoying.  Absolutely.  I don’t want to give too much of the book away, or else you won’t read it.  I was sad when it was over.  However, he was probably happy to have finally finished.  Definitely worth taking it slow on this one.
