Festivus

All this time I thought Festivus was just a joke, but as legend has it, Festivus is actually a legitimate albeit secular holiday celebrated on December 23 of each year as a way to celebrate the holiday season without pressure or commercialism. It was created by Dan O’Keele. Instead of a tree they use an unadorned aluminum pole as their symbol. The “Airing of Grievances” and “Feats of Strength” are the main events. In the Airing of Grievances, which takes place during the family meal a person tells everyone how they have disappointed him or her over the last year. During the Feats of Strength which takes place after the meal, family members will try to wrestle the head of household to the ground.

It’s definitely a strange sort of holiday but if nothing else, we got this funny episode of Seinfeld out of it.
