Prologue

So what exactly is this all about?  This blog is dedicated to true stories about my day to day life living with Myopia, Nystagmus, Congenital Stationary Night Blindness, and very little depth perception ALL AT THE SAME TIME.

You may be wondering what all those words mean.  I promise, this will be the end of the boring stuff.  I’ll keep the definitions short and simple.

Myopia:

I can see things close up, (which is why I can do things like write blogs)  but not so much as they get farther away.  My visual acuity is somewhere around 20/200 which means, whatever a person with normal sight can see from 200 feet away, I would have to be 20 feet away to see the same thing with the same amount of detail, and that would be in the “legally blind” range.

Nystagmus:

My eyes move around involuntarily.  Don’t worry, you normally can’t see it.

Congenital Stationary Night Blindness:

My night vision is pretty much completely shot if I’m not in a well lit area.

Depth Perception

The thing that tells you where one stair ends and another begins or how close objects are to you.  I don’t have much of that.

***

Having all four of these at once can make for some interesting, unfair, yet humourous  anecdotes.  There are definitely people who have it worse than me, but this is my story.  Perhaps if it goes well on here, I might turn it into a book someday.

My name is Brian Berry, and I see life through a thicker lens.
