Kyle Larson made a serious mistake on Monday night. He might not be able to recover from it. All it took was one second. One second to ruin all of his relationships with sponsors and his team owner. One second he can’t get back.
One poorly chosen word that does irreparable damage to entire groups of people all over the world. It may be difficult for him to ever come back from this. Even if Kyle does the NASCAR recommended sensitivity training, if he can’t get sponsors back on board, he might not be able to race again. NASCAR is almost totally dependent on sponsors, you don’t want to put yourself in a position where they won’t work with you. It was good that he apologized, but there are always natural consequences to anything that happens, good or bad. More sponsors to work with Kurt Busch, I suppose. He’ll have to watch how much McDonald’s he eats along with that Monster Energy.
This all being said, Kyle Larson is still a human. We all make mistakes, though not usually this nasty. Kyle needs his friends around him now more than ever. It will be interesting to see what becomes of his future.
I’m sad that the first NASCAR news I get to talk about since the virus is this disappointing. I suppose we’ll see how all of this shakes out. At least it was a nice break from writing about COVID-19.
