Kory rode his top of the line bike to work on a rainy Monday evening. The weather fit his mood. He was determined to get a more interesting case from Oedipus this time. No more drug busts. Something interesting. Something with class. If the big man was going to put him on another twenty minute case, Kory decided he would tactfully suggest one of the rookies. Kory wanted something worth his time and effort.
He busted through the front doors of WRAITH without even stopping his bike. Riding straight up to the boss, Kory asked.
“What have you got for me tonight, O-Money?”
“Never call me that again.” Oedipus replied. “When was the last time you were on a date?”
“What’s a date?” Kory asked.
“You take a woman out and show her a good time. Clearly you’ve never done this before, but this will be a training opportunity. We are trying to track down a certain evil lady. She goes by RX. Everyone she touches seems to die. We want to know why, and among other things bring her in so that this behaviour stops as soon as possible.” Oedipus replied.
“You want me to befriend her on a date hoping she’ll open up right away.” Kory deadpanned.
“It could take longer than one date.” Oedipus said. “Don’t rush it. I’ll arrange for your charm training to begin tomorrow.”
“Ok. What if she falls in love with me?” Kory asked.
“Tell her you work in a subway station.” Oedipus deadpanned.
“That’s fair,” Kory said. “This should be different and more interesting than a drug bust.”
“I’m glad you’re excited for some variety.” Oedipus said. “Go home and rest. If everything goes according to plan, tomorrow will be a different day for you. Oh, and I know we don’t do this often because it’s cliche, but bring a nice suit for this once.”
“Breaking your cardinal rule,” Kory said.
“I know, I know,” Oedipus mumbled. “Get out of here.”
So, that’s exactly what Kory did.
