BTF Chapter 3: Benny Hinn

I would start off with a guy who lives in Toronto.  Benny Hinn was originally from Israel and has been around on this earth for 72 years.  During that time he came to Canada with his family and supposedly became a born again Christian in 1972.  Later on he would move to the United States, because he thought staying in Canada would limit his reach for people.  He founded, by himself, without the Lord a “church” in Orlando.  Benny thought and was telling other people that God was using him as a “conduit for healing.”  Benny clearly forgot that God can heal on His own.  He started a talkshow bragging about it and wrote a lot of books.  You’re going to notice a pattern with these people.  They all like thier book deals.

Here are some examples of his healing attempts.   I say that because it may look cool to some people on TV, but there’s no verified evidence that any of these healings actually made things better.

Listen to how rehearsed everyone seems.  Something is up here.

Hinn is also well versed in lying.  You can’t live modestly and also have a mansion.

Benny is tricky, using I Surrender All, a great hymn of the faith, to trick us into thinking everything is going to be on the up and up.  You can do a lot of tricky things for TV.  If you only used snippets of this with the parts he’s talking about that are right, you could turn him into a normal pastor who is following Jesus, that’s how well he can trick people.  If you look at the whole production, there’s stuff that’s definitely not right.  Jesus never healed to make it a spectacle.  You might say but what about the paralyzed man.

A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”

Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”

Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? 10 But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, 11 “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” 12 He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

-Mark 2:1-12

There still wasn’t as many people there in that house as Benny Hinn is trying to confuse all at once.

Brushing it off too easily.  Fake propheisies.  Outside redemption.   Can we even trust this appology if he’s been lying.  He’s already blaming other folks anyway.  All of his prophesies were not accurate.  Imperfection of humanity?  Yes, but all false prophecies are on the same level.

20 But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded, or a prophet who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.” -Deuteronomy 18:20

Hinn’s ministry is centered on making people feel better about their depravity.  Benny Hinn always missed it.  Repentance and deflection are different things.  He’s totally still blaming people for his won problems even though.  Benny’s whole thing is gimmicks.  False miracles, temporary repentance.  Gets right back at it.  He could still truly repent, but it seems unlikely.  He repents when he gets caught.  He gets rich off of emotionally deceiving people.

“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22 Many will say to me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?’ 23 Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!’ -Matthew 7:21-23

I need to remember this as much as anyone else.
